I am moving to norwalk area for work and my wife currently lives and works in Boston. We are looking for a place together from where we can both commute to our offices. Considering the traffic on pike in morning and evening, we would prefer not to use car as far as possible. I have no clue about the traffic near norwalk. Considering this, where would be a good place in between the two? I will be happy to provide more information about the situation if that helps. Thanks in advance!!

I'm sorry to say, but it's not a practical commute at all. Traffic going into Norwalk is pretty bad. I would look for other job opportunities.

This is not a feasible commute. It's just too far between the two cities. There are no viable " meet in the middle places" and no commute by rail to Boston scenarios that would work.

The only way I can see this working is if each of you takes an apartment in each city and lives there during the week, then you get together on weekends in one place or another. Even then, that sort of arrangement will get old fast.

FYI: The halfway point would be Tolland, CT. However this would leave both of you with about a 90 minute commute each way. Consider looking for other employment or a partial work-from-home arrangement. This is not doable on a daily basis. This is a car commute.

Halfway point could also be around Westerly. But it's irrelevant anyway. The OP isn't getting to Norwalk in 90 minutes from Tolland or Westerly.

Not realistic for a commute on both ends. Can one of you change jobs?

Thanks all for the great advice/comments.

How is this option?
Live in New Haven CT and take Amtrak to Boston 4 days a week (M- Th)

Morning commute
New Haven, CT (NHV) to Boston - South Station (BOS)
4:40am - 7:58am 3 hr, 18 min

Evening commute (Boston to New haven)
4:15pm - 6:17pm 2 hr, 2 min
5:20pm - 7:21pm 2 hr, 1 min
5:35pm - 8:12pm 2 hr, 37 min

Other person will commute from New Haven to norwalk by car.

Its still hard and a super commute. We are considering this for 6 months until one of us finds a new job.

Your wife would definitely have a rough commute from New Haven.

Did you consider how long it would take her to get to work from the station?
