It's not unique to Malloy - it's becoming more & more common in nearly every state. Didn't International Paper relocate out of Stamford to TN because it got 15 years tax free there?
Those states have low taxes for everyone.

That's why companies are leaving CT because taxes in CT are high and other state taxes are low.

Why doesn't this make sense to you?

This is true, because these deals favor corporations at the expense of states. They're a winning proposition for shareholders, but not for state citizens (unless they happen to be a shareholder, of course!).

Citizens gain via jobs. If UTC moved, the same folks boo hooing the deals cost would boo hoo the jobs lost.

Corps have realized jobs are an asset they provide, and like all other assets, they can be redeemed for lower taxes and cash incentives.

Let's keep poking UTC maybe the Gov can get more from them. UTC has already made it clear that they are not happy with the State of CT economic policies (i.e. taxes). Has the Gove ever heard of one in the hand is worth two in the bush. He'll push them so far and they will back out of the entire deal. SMH

From a corporate standpoint there is a reason why UTC made/agreed to the original deal the way they did.

Incorrect, net-net studies show that states and their citizens lose money through these deals, which includes jobs analyses.

Malloy did it so if UTC does leave, it will be well after he left office if he loses this time around, or just after he leaves office if he is re-elected.

UTC has been threatening to leave the state since at least the 1970s, and probably before.

While I understand why these deals are done, I really hate this approach to economic development. And its really not development, more like maintaining the status quo. Making CT a more business friendly state for all businesses, large and small, is a better long term solution.

Agreed. However it's important to note that business are successful in higher tax environments than Connecticut. (New York City, anyone). While CT is no NYC or SFO, maybe we should look at why companies aren't leaving Manhattan for Alabama in droves?
