As log as there is a private school nearby, not a priority.

You are concerned about the price of gas, are looking for a 300k dollar home, but can afford private school? You do realize that will cost 10-20K per child per year...

Anyways, so far Milford, Bethel, Hamden, and Stratford will be good. Hamden and Stratford has underperforming schools, but a private school would be nice depending on the costs.

At your price range, you will likely not save anything once you factor private school in Stratford and Hamdem, especially since taxes in Milford and Bethel are lower.

CT has one of the best school systems in the United States. If you stay out of the Cities and you are involved in your kids schooling they will have a fine education. I grew up in a "city" and kids I graduated with went to Yale, Harvard and Cornell for free. If you are not rich and your kids go to school with wall street bankers kids, the pressure to fit in will hinder the education process and put a strain on you. Better to put the $20k a year and bump up to a better school system in CT. You'll be happy you did.

Also,. with the traffic...I need traffic that is willing to go shopping, not just driving by looking, something that people will visit, like a town busy town square or a major road that people will shop at.

I'm guessing you are looking to start a retail business. There are major roadways like Route 1 and they have a lot of traffic however; it is not foot traffic and people tend to go directly to their store and leave. Not really looking around.

If you are looking for an area like Kennebunkport, ME. You might find that in lower FFC. I'm thinking like boutique shoppes.
