Totally agree, in Europe you have 30 days vacation, here if you get a week or two is a big woopdi doo. same with maternity leave in the states-also very pathetic, I guess USA treats their citizens like robots, work work work .

Yeah exactly. It's sickening. The same people who support these working conditions would have been the same people that were against having weekends off from work back in the 1800s.

Why, on God's emerald green earth, did you move to Florida in the first place if everything is allegedly so much better in Connecticut?

It seems like you never should have never left or, perhaps, moved to California instead.

But you're from Connecticut, so I'm willing to bet you don't really know any better, meaning that the rest of the country doesn't really exist to you beyond Florida, which is really the end-all-be-all for New Englanders.

FWIW, I'm from Rhode Island, and I lived in Florida for nearly 12 years before I moved to California. In hindsight, I should have just moved there in the first place. But like most New Englanders, I had no working knowledge of California, as I had never been, and I always thought of it as a distant land. So, I followed the herd to pasture, so to speak, and moved to Florida.

My point is that there's a whole lot more to the US than CT and FL, and plenty of places that smoke both places in terms of weather, scenery, QOL, etc.

Maybe. Maybe not. But it seems as if you may have been better offstarting your own seperate thread because Im not sure what your rant about your RI, Fl, Cali experience has anything to do with the Ct/Fl relationship.

This poll is quite revealing.

//www.city-data.com/forum/gener...rspective.html

The results show that most people who have lived in BOTH the northeast and Florida, would in a landslide, prefer to live in Florida.

React to THAT, ******es!

That's fine... just confirms the herd mentality of the Walmart America.

American Idol is a more popular show than Breaking Bad. Quality over quantity kid.

True. I couldn't care less for American Idol. But I recently finished Breaking Bad and enjoyed it very much.

The poll has very few responses and if you look at the overall responses to the questions asked, the northeast wins out. Plus you really do not know who is responding so I would not hang my hat on this poll. It is just about worthless. Jay

Well, I think everyone is biased toward where they grew up. Seems like many CT natives prefer CT. However, whenever I talk with FL natives who visited CT, most of them say they would NEVER live up here. The reasons most cited are (a) I don't want to deal with winter, snow and cold, and (b) everything is old and dirty looking.

I gotta admit, I agree with the old construction/infrastructure thing though. The infrastructure and general residential and commercial construction in CT is just downright old, crumbling and weathered looking, and it's depressing as hell. It's NOT charming. It just looks......old and dirty, in a bad way. Granted, there are some new homes that have an old charming style, or some old homes that have been refurbished nicely, but like I said before, when I did my huge road trip a year ago and came back into CT, I felt like I had literally warped back to the 1960s.

Also, there's no comparison between CT and FL infrastructure, period. The highways in FL are excellent, free of potholes, and the surfaces are in excellent condition. Guardrails and signage are brand new, too. CT infrastructure generally looks disgustingly old. I don't know how anyone can defend it.

I was actually going to say say this same exact thing. People who have lived in CT their whole lives prefer CT over other places. I'd say almost all of the people I meet have never lived anywhere outside of CT. I'm talking 9/10 people.

I've lived in PA, IN, VA, and CT. I prefer anywhere VA and south over the north. All I know is my area is not a great place for transplants. I'd move to CA, FL, SC, or VA in a heartbeat if I could afford it. CT has a high rated quality of life, but that doesn't make the winter any more bearable, and it doesn't make the cost of living any less. If you like NY, Bston, DC, or Chicago, you'll probably like CT. If you like beaches, like warm weather, hate the cold, and suffer from SAD, you probably won't like CT.
