That explains why there are so many pedestrians at night. Makes sense. Its so dangerous that people put themselves in harms way evening after evening.

Is that what we call the drug dealers/gangbangers now?

Stuff happens maybe once or twice a year, but they tend to be isolated non-random cases.
LOL, that is it. How do you know someone isnt shot/stabbed at night and hid the dead body in the area? Walking in the day may be somewhat safe (still not as safe as Downtown) but at night...

May not be as bad as South Bronx but still a seedy area.

Where are the reports?

I've walked through there during the day and during the night taking photos of the area with my DSLR, never once felt in danger nor anyone warned me about anything. Due to my photo hobby, I have practically walked through most areas of the city.

Like I said before, people here are blowing things way out of proportion.

Sorry but someone from a big city or who knows the area may not be as concerned but the general population who is not from a highly urban area or street smart would be. The OP should not have to be worried so the point here is this is not the area they should be looking into. Jay

Are you saying that someone like the OP, who joined this forum a couple of days ago and his pseudonym includes the initials NYC, is not from a big city? Is anyone suppose to assume anything else with leads such as that one?

I've been warned in a few areas of NYC some of the times I went down there to photograph the city and the usual scenery of people living their lives. Someone either says to be careful showing that camera around or they even warn me about certain areas to avoid. Not the case in Stamford and I've been photographing all parts of the city for quite a few years now. And I usually do my photographing alone with my camera slung over my shoulder and in full view.

The OP said nothing about being from New York so you can not just assume they are based on their forum name. Judging from their second post they are not very comfortable in urban areas so I think the advice others are offering is reasonable. Jay

I used to be from NYC and currently go to college in Chicago, but to be fair I've mostly lived in nicer areas of both cities (Flushing and Hyde Park). Although the overwhelming opinion seems to be quite negative, AntonioR's comments have been a bit reassuring. I will look into other places, but there don't seem to be many options for short term (about 2.5 months) and I need a place soon.

A couple of my photos.

I'll take new ones in the next few days to keep this thread with fresh images of the area, including from the same spots where the Google images were taken. I might buy a spot at one of the cemeteries, just in case.

You can even see the 'scary' people in the photos, especially that evil man in the first photo. He was obviously sending me a death signal. I don't know how I survived that.
