saw one of those electronic signs flashing an alert about something going on from 6a-5p on 6/17 which is tomorrow. i think i saw it around exit 14. anybody know what that might be? if it's lane closures, i'm going in late cos i just don't want to deal with the inevitable 3 mile backup.

I don't know about that, but coming up 684 tonight I saw the electronic sign notice that 84e will be closed at exit 30 from 6/27 - 6/29. I think there were hours posted, but I cannot remember what they were. I'll take note tomorrow night and will post back if no one else beats me to it

Meh, big deal. If I-84 at exit 14 closes traffic will be moving.

The problem on I-84 is Exit 2-11. Once over the bridge to Exit 16 moves fine.

Exit 30 will be closed 6/27 to 6/29 because they are replacing both bridges. They already have them built on each side of the roads. They will be loading them onto trucks and dropping them right into place. Pretty cool replacing two bridges in a single weekend.

Usually if it's a major closure i.e. Highway closure or exit closure the contractor has to put notices out and they will be on the DOT website. That time seems off unless it's a day lane closure because of a major pour but it sounds like a shoulder or a single lane closure.

Story re closure at Southington Exit 30 for bridge replacement here:

It appears I-84 traffic will go off the off-ramps and then right back on the on-ramps, both NB and SB. Local Marion Rd traffic has a messier detour.

That is cool. They did something similar in Danbury back in the Fall. Two bridges, both directions -- totally replaced. East and West bound, and both replaced in a matter of like 2 weeks! (Over the course of 2 weekends, so it didn't affect weekday travel!) - pretty awesome!!

Did the same thing in NY in Brewster on the CT line. According to google maps, traffi backed up for less than a half mile. That said, the closures didn't start until 5PM on Saturday.

mystery solved.. saw the sign again today and this time read the whole thing.. 'Utility Work 6/17 9a - 3p'. turns out it didn't affect me anyway since i go in before 9 and leave at 4.
do see a sign near exit 30 but it says 'rest stop closed from - to' (didn't catch the dates). there's also some roadwork already going on in the median a bit up the road. doesn't back up the traffic though.

That is in preparation of the bridge replacement next weekend.

Thanks for the heads up! You've saved me some unneeded aggravation. Will be driving through there that weekend.
