Hi,

Is Trumbull, CT more rural than suburban? Or suburban with sidewalks, restaurants, and shopping. How long is the commute from Trumbull to the financial district in NYC? Does the commute become unbearable after awhile?

Welcome to State Of Connecticut the 3rd smallest state out of the 50 states sit between NY and MA mainly, and tiny Rhode Island to the far east.

Trumbull is suburban but you the further north you go it become more rural homes are more further apart not that far apart.

Trumbull is an affluent suburb of Bridgeport which is further east part of Fairfield County which is one of most expensive areas in America but Trumbull is less expensive than Greenwich, Fairfield, Easton for etc but Trumbull still is expensive. It is a great town-- very family oriented with lots of activities. There is a fair range of housing options but all of them will be on the pricier side with some homes reaching 700K - 1.0M in Trumbull. Trumbull schools are all very good and you have nothing to fear no matter what school you send your kids too. Trumbull has a low crime rate safety is not issue you have worry about but still keep your toes high.

Some streets in Trumbull has sidewalks, some don't, there are two shopping centers in Trumbull which is Trumbull Mall and Hawley Lane. Trumbull Mall has stores, food places such as Macy's, Cheesecake factory, Target, JC Pennys, American Eagle for etc. Hawley Lane is shopping plaza which has Best Buy, Target, Home Goods, Kohl's. Trumbull has some restaurants but Fairfield and Milford has better variety of choices.

Trumbull does'nt has a train station you either use Downtown Bridgeport Train Station or Fairfield Metro which is 15-20 mins into middle of Trumbull.

I don't think Trumbull would be a good option to commute into the financial district in Manhattan, NYC I talking about nearly 2 hour commute by Metro North, driving home, taking the subway.

80 Min Train into NYC from Bridgeport or Fairfield train station, 15 min train ride into Lower Manhattan, 15 min to drive home.

Forget about driving !

Stamford/Greenwich would be 30-35 mins less but I think you should look into Westchester County.

Figure 15 minutes to drive to train, then another 75 minutes on train, then another 30-40 minutes to get to work. Doesn't include walking or waiting time. It's an over 2 hour commute. The only town that makes sense in CT for that commute is Greenwich.

To further answer your question, Trumbull is mainly suburban with rural parts. But it's not suburban as you describe. It's .25-2 acre lots, woods, and some strip malls. It's not a very walkable town as far as sidewalks and there's no downtown.

Metro North is not that reliable sometimes there are random delays The OP will be late for work or a event.

I take metro north 20 times a month and I can tell you with high confidence I am late maybe once every two months.

My parents and sister moved to Trumbull in 09 from the Bronx and they love it. It is not really walkable to store but lots of hiking trails and they do have a nice splash pad, lake, and pool and not far to either New Haven which has lots of good food plus F airfield has lots of good places to eat as well and only an hour away from the city on weekends or when no traffic. My bother in law works in Rye and takes him well over an hour driving because he is going with traffic

I agree. The media has painted Metro North as being very inefficient but that really is not the case. Their on-time rate is very high despite all of the well publicized issues. Still it will be a LONG commute from Trumbul to the Financial District and not one I would want to do. Jay

I agree that they're usually on time.

Too slow, but that's another issue.
