I read it as needing access for family. There's really no practical option for a daily LI commute, except Greenwich maybe. It also depends on where in LI.

I would not make that commute from anywhere northeast of Darien. In fact, I would just move to Long Island, and not make that commute at all. Keep in mind you'll have to go over one of two bridges each way - that means two things: high toll prices and traffic.
What's that GW toll at now? Like $12? lol

We definitely need some more information like where on LI do you want to be 90 minutes from? What time of day would you be traveling (rush hour will be brutal). What is your budget and what do you expect to get for it? Where do you plan on commuting to on a daily basis? Would you consider taking the ferry to cross Long Island Sound? The ferry trip alone from Bridgeport to Port Jefferson is 1 hour 15 minutes so you would have to live very near Bridgeport and be going to somewhere very near Port Jefferson. Otherwise, you would have to be living in lower Fairfield County which is among the most expensive areas in the country. Jay

You don't take the GW to get to LI, you take the Throgs Neck (or Whitestone) but still - it is pricey.

According to the MTA website, the toll on the Throgs Neck Bridge is $7.50. EZPass is $5.33. Jay
