Those signs on I-95 are close to 20 years old now so of course they look worn. They were state-of-the-art when they were installed but now need replacing. Fortunately CTDOT is doing that with new signs planned in the next couple of years. That said the old signs still serve their purpose just fine.

And the others are right, stay off your phone when driving. You could cause an accident. Jay

I hate them. It causes people to start a brake-athon.

Yes! I noticed these yesterday on 95 while driving home. There are three I believe from the New York border to Norwalk (I get off exit 14.) I think I saw one between Norwalk and Fairfield, on my way to dinner, last night, as well.

Thumbs up they can be useful, but do cause tie-ups

When I used to work, I would always hope the sign entering I-95 from Frontage Rd. in East Haven would not be lit up. Many times, it was, but it was seat belt week, click it or ticket, or work zone safety week. Every car had to slow down to read it. That being said, recently I have seen the sign message saying there is a 5 or 6 or even 8-mile tie-up (one day last week, all the way to exit 39 which I believe is in Milford). That would be useful to know and enough reason for me not to enter I-95 at that point.

Glad I am retired now and don't even have to go over the Pearl Harbor Bridge - I avoid it at all costs.

For the most part, they're pointless. Delay next x miles. Which we sadly come to expect in many areas. I don't need a sign to tell me that. I can see it. And its not as of there are any good alternate routes. I believe some drivers slow down just to read the signs or because they see the word delay

This. A few weeks ago I was driving on 84 when traffic stopped. It was stop and go for about a mile or so (about a 15 minute back up), when I realized what was causing it: the sign! I was so annoyed. It's like those people who come to a complete stop next to a car accident just to look. DRIVE!

I don't understand why people are saying that these new signs are causing people to slow down. I haven't noticed that AT ALL. At least not here on I-95 during rush hours. Perhaps it's because the traffic here is already moving so slowly. I don't know.

Saw the travel time alerts on 84 eastbound this morning for the first time. I think the font size needs to be increased a few points.

Yes. Not many places where that information can help you make a re-routing decision.

I knew all the roads around the Merritt from exits 44 to 35 intimately, so I could (if I knew about it) loop around a jam. But it never really saved me much or any time, just aggravation and fear of somebody smacking into my car from the rear.

Haven't seen the new "minutes to X exit" yet but the old ones "delay 3 miles to exit 55" for pretty useless for the most part at least for me. With the old signs it's always great when your sitting in traffic at exit 41 of the Merritt you pass a sign which said "delay 3 miles exit 58-59" but no time for the traffic your sitting in. And since 42 is the start of the no exit zone if you stay on the highway and there's a 5 car accident your really completely screwed because there's no where for you to go once you pass 42.
Also, the old signs were great announcing traffic for places you've already passed! I used to see a "road work 95 north exit 39-40" sign on 25 north. How many cars on 25 north at exit 4 are going to be traveling on 95 North at exit 40?? 1?? And that 1 is stopping in Bridgeport, Trumbull, Monroe, Stratford, or Shelton first??
