After many visits to Connecticut to see family, I've noticed that most CT towns either cater to the upper-class and are relativly unaffordable for most, or are unsafe & corrupt cities. I'm curious to see if there are any true middle class cities/towns left in CT?

What's your definition of middle class? Surprisingly it varies for many, so if you provide a ballpark annual income number, I'm sure some people here will be able to help you out.

My consideration of middle class would be between 50k-70k per household, within a town with an average crime rate.

I know quite a few towns that would fit the bill, mostly in Litchfield County or Eastern Connecticut.

Somebody making 50k a year couldn't afford a home in many of those towns listed. Especially if it's 50k one person trying to support an entire family(the way things used to be when you didn't NEED to two incomes) Honestly, not a lot of middle class in CT. This isn't the midwest. It's more dirt poor inner city and very wealthy people. Large income gap in this state. Worst is in fairfield county for sure, but it exists everywhere in this state. Very high COL

nep321 Thanks! I will look into those more. CT has a reputation for income gap and it is very apparent across the entire state. The only towns I've been to on that list are Manchester, Plainville, Newington and Windsor Locks which might be the reason I thought middle class CT towns were few and far between.

It's tough to support a family on 50K anywhere in CT. That income qualifies you for a lot of state help.

75K is still tight but more manageable, especially east of the river.

The median household income in CT is close to $70K. So, there are some middle class towns and cities, but not too many. Yes, most of the state is upper-middle class suburbia, with total craphole cities scattered here and there.

Now that I've been living in Fairfield County for almost two years, I seriously feel like I don't fit in here. I consider myself middle class, but it seems like everyone here is either VERY well off or struggling. Income inequality is very visible here. I miss the more visible class that exists in Hartford County, but even that's diminishing, as towns like Granby, Ellington, Tolland and Rocky Hill are becoming more upper class by the day.
