We went to Talcott Mountain Music Festival in Simsbury when we lived in CT (wish I were going but I'm stuck in NC this year!) Take along a folding table & chairs, cooler with wine, cheese etc., and listen to the Hartford Symphony Orchestra... a real pleasant evening without a lot of hype. There's a real nice fireworks display afterward. I believe it's on the 3rd this year. Or you can reserve a table/chairs close to the stage if you have a group. Many area restaurants offer a boxed menu of yummy stuff you can grab the night of the shows.

My house.

Seriously, we had a block party last year and the neighbors gave up the city show for ours.

This year we are doing the same thing, and I'll probably go to Riverfest the following weekend for their show...so long as they are not setting them off across the river again. It was much much too far away.
