Hello all, I spent a week up in Newtown (family house) last year, and I always thought it was just amazing, compared to living in crowded queens ny. My wife and I decided, that to be locked down to a miserable small $$ home around nyc is not for us, but we dont' want to do the whole NC thing. First thing that came to mind was Newtown. Second thing was, ok, great schools, great housing, but where the heck are people working. it can't be NYC or the commute would be 2+ hours. As someone who specializes in Fin Services, I know my options are limited, but hell, I am young and would change industries if I had to. As a data analyst that specializes in regulatory compliace, I can and have adopted to every industry possible.

where in the world would you look for jobs?

Also, are there any other towns around there that I should look at?

I can't belive the deals on housing compared to LI and NJ. 550k gets some a beautiful house on more then .1 acres :-)

From my exprience, people that live in Newtown commute to Stamford, Norwalk, New Haven, Danbury or even White Plains or Hartford. Yes, the prices are very good compared to LI and NJ, and also Westchester County. In addition to the prices being less, the property taxes are considerbly lower. Good luck!

I agree with jdhall1.

I live in Monroe, which is on the southern border of Newtown. When we moved here from Norwalk 11 years ago, the two towns we were focusing on were Newtown and Monroe. It just happened that Monroe had something more to our liking at the time. Newtown, Monroe, and Trumbull have a lot of NYC/lower Fairfield County transplants who were all looking for the same thing; a more quiet pace of living in a more rural environment, great schools, and you get more house and land for your money. And you won't have to travel very far for shopping and entertainment.

A number of people commute from Danbury to NYC via the Harlem line of Metro-North so I wouldn't be surprised if a few did it from Newtown.

You could stay in CT doing compliance work, the financial services sector is big in lower Fairfield County(Greenwich, Stamford, and Norwalk).

Some more great towns near Newtown are Southbury, New Milford, Bethel, Monroe, and Danbury.

Newtown is a great town and its within commuting distance to Danbury, Bridgeport, Norwalk and New Haven. I know a few who commute to White Plains and Stamford.

We've commuted from Newtown (near exit 9) to many parts of Westchester County including Purchase, White Plains and Armonk. Some neighbors commute to Somers (NY), others are traveling consultants who also work frequently at home. Many airports besides LAG and JFK are very accessible depending on where you travel to (Newburgh/Stewart, White Plains and Hartford).

Hartford is also a 'long' commute possibility.

Newtown is very nice and 'more affordable' (than some...). Some parts have a private and rural character, others have classic new cul-de-sacs. There are woods, fields, streams etc that are still relatively unspoiled.

There are people who opt for the longer commute to have some of the other benefits.

We plan on moving to the NW corner of Monroe (near the Newtown border - about 5 miles from I84) and my husband will commute to White Plains. During rush hour, is it easier to go north and take I84W to 684 or take 25S to the Merritt? Thanks.....

During rush hour, the Merritt is very busy with traffic heading into Stamford. I would go I-84. Jay
