$1 billion in new taxes proposed by Democrats in Hartford

The tax base would be expanded to tax new things such as veterinarian services and tax preparation services. LMAO! You would have to pay a tax to your CPA just to do your taxes!!

Also, the top income tax rate would increase from 6.7% to 6.9%. And the capital gains rate would also increase by 2%.

Personally, I think this is the only route to take at this point, in this state. This, combined with the new proposed road usage (mileage) tax and new red light cameras will help CT get back on track to prosperity.

Plus, I voted for Malloy, so this is the type of solution I would like to see.

Why didn't you front run and overpay your taxes so we wouldn't be in such dire straights. Its a real shame that is come to this. This could all be solved by prudent capital expenditures and the conversion to defined contribution retirement plans for state employee . No need to further reduce the appeal of this state in decline.

Well, it's math, right? I mean, if you raise taxes, then we can afford to pay things down better.

Not in politics. You have a lot to learn. We'll assuredly find a way to spent all of it without paying a single dollar down. Period.

They should up the top tax rate for people making over 330k per year to 10 percent, instead of a measly .2 percent increase.

You do realize how little 330k is in CT, right? To live in Darien, you need more than that to live a comfortable "Darien-type" lifestyle, especially if you have kids. If you raise taxes too much, Fairfield County folk leave because there isn't a tax advantage over Westchester. That means Fairfield County prices go down, with that goes your home value in the rest of CT, and you're left having to make up the tax difference, because whoever moves in will inevitably earn less. This is worse case scenario, but quit it with the class warfare.

Bingo. Be careful of biting the hand that feeds "you" (e.g. CT coffers). Fairfield county accounts for 42% of state revenue!!!

lol

You can't get blood from a stone. It's like asking the poor working Arabs to pay more taxes in Qatar while the filthy rich upper class horde all the cash. Conservatives just don't get it. Just because someone gets paid something doesn't mean they deserve that much money. A person should not be getting 100 million dollar contracts for hitting a baseball. He didn't "earn" anything other than the right to play in the majors and being the best baseball player. Millions of dollars for that is ridiculous. How do you justify something like that? Unless your religion is the "free market". He simply had a talent(god given) at a silly game for youths and is taking a huge amount of money for himself that he doesn't deserve while other people struggle. Spread the wealth. Simple concept known as redistribution.

330k is a "little" amount of money? Then we need to fix the cost of housing there and start capping it. We need to figure out how it got this out of control and stop this speculation on housing and provide affordable housing. This is classic severe income inequality in that county that's really messed up. What's the average income in the poor sections of inner cities like bridgeport? Or what about all the people that work at the malls/stores down there? What does the bottom 10 percent make? I can just imagine how huge the gap is.

NY should also raise their taxes as well the Feds should do it to. That takes care of that problem. Other than nep, most of the CT forum is right wing so this will fall on deaf ears. Lack of compassion for others, lower taxes, get rid of social handouts like Social security(vouchers...lol), and deregulating and privatizing is the right wing answer.
