To completely privatize our highway network would put a lot of people, particularly those with more modest incomes (i.e. the middle class) in a difficult situation. Suddenly they will be forced to pay very high prices to commute from their suburban homes. It could have a very dramatic impact on one of this country's greatest strengths, owning your own home. We need to be very careful how we proceed with this. Jay

We're very long away from privatizing highways. I mentioned liability concerns. There are other obstacles or inhibitors in CT or country. For example, Govt can do eminent domain, but privates can't.

But the biggest inhibitor is our driving cost structure. It's very hard to with "free." For example it cost more in tolls to drive 350 miles from Zurich to Nice than tolls to drive 3000 miles from Boston to LA.

Maybe someone mention this and I simply missed their post, but yesterday the Hartford Line was inaugurated.

For some odd reason there is not a single video on Youtube of Dan Malloy's ribbon cutting event, but there is this one from the Massachusetts side.

If I heard correctly in the video, free train rides this weekend.

conntact.com - $50 Million Keeps Springfield to New Haven Train On Track

I'm sure the owners of the new MGM casino in Springfield, MA are very happy with this extra transportation option for many of their potential visitors in CT and NY (connecting with Metro North in New Haven.)

Guys, it's a shame that a train with CT in its name hardly has any CT based coverage on Youtube. What in the world is going on?!

^^^That was WONDERFUL! Yes, Sat and Sun are free and parking is free too at (Hartford garage?) I want to take it to DC and I hope it won't be too long before it is extended up to Northampton. Maybe it will cut down on traffic on rte 91. Although, maybe not, because Springfield is getting that stupid casino and that will cause an increase in traffic. But it's a step in the right direction.

I didn’t hit any tolls in Switzerland. Italy tolls are brutal though.

I hope to ride it from Berlin to Springfield either today or tomorrow. ☺

(Also need to see if these trains will have outlets or wi-fi.)

I am not sure about YouTube but it was certainly all over the news yesterday. Jay
