SIL needs to commute to the Danbury area on I-84 daily, says it's a complete and utter disaster nowadays.
Everytime we return from a VT ski trip in the evening, 91 through and past Hartford is a disaster of epic proportions. Thank God I live in the SW corner away from all that.

84 in Waterbury is definitely improving, but it needed a total rebuild and honestly, fixing that stretch from the mall to the Cheshire line has the side effect of kicking the can down the road to the Mixmaster and the no exit zone through Middlebury.

The 84/91 interchange is just beyond horrible. It amazes me that there aren't more accidents in that area.

Especially the offramp from Interstate 91 Southbound to Interstate 84 Eastbound. People excessively speed down the offramp and don't acknowledge the fact that the turn to get on the Bulkeley Bridge is a very very sharp turn. I've seen many people scrape their car on the outer wall. Then once you're on the Bulkeley Bridge you need to merge 2 more lanes to the left to get on Interstate 84 Eastbound within a 1/4 of a mile. It easily gets clogged when you have people merging onto the highway going 30-40 and people going 70-80 if they're already on the highway.

They are looking for new sources of revenue, which means that at best there will be a box with no lock.

No doubt about it!!!!!! Even if they proposed a lockbox, it would get raided through legislation anyways.

How do you all feel with the traffic re-design on I84 East in Waterbury? I am glad they are expanding the lanes. Think they didn't solve the issue with traffic. A huge issue is when RT 8 S/N & 2 on ramp exits merge on East causes a lot of influx of traffic. The lanes going from 3 don't really help. The biggest issue is Exit 23 on ramp. Use to be a cause of traffic back up with it being a short on ramp with heavy traffic flow into a heaby flow of traffic.

Now it's a short on ramp with another short on ramp. The biggest issue if going East Bound you can get on the Exit 23 off ramp that leads on to the I84 East on ramp causing more traffic.

Not sure how to fix it. Think a good idea would be Exit 23 be I84 East on ramp be it's own separate lane. Where it goes from 3 lanes to 2 lanes. Then has an on ramp on to it's ramp from Exit 24, 25, and 25A then that traffic goes to 1 lane then merges on the highway. Also make it 3 lanes from Exit 19 to 28. Should be a barrier for 8 South traffic merging on to I84 with their own off ramps.
