I hate them but reluctantly use them. For what we pay our lawn looks mediocre at best. This year they did not even bother to call to see if we wanted to continue our service. They just showed up and started. Also they have killed our lawn in the past because they do not have people that know how to spread their fertilizer evenly. Even now I have brown patches.

Now you may ask why we have not stopped them. Well DW was supposed to look into alternatives but because she is so busy with work and others it got pushed off and like I said they just showed up without calling. By that point it was just easier to continue. Our neighborhood is grub heaven so if you do not treat for them in the spring, your lawn will be gone in a matter of days. Jay

A $20 bag of grub ex takes care of the grub problem, the issue is that they just migrate to another lawn.

Also the spray treatment trucks that you see around can burn grass as well. Since we did not get a lot of rain until the other day all the applications were just going on the lawn with no water, not counting the water used to dilute the solution. So it never penetrated the roots enough and just burned the lawn. I have heard that they will just keep coming, even after you cancel sometimes causing headaches with billing. Your technically not on contract so just having them stop and paying for the current treatments is completely acceptable.

I never saw much value in any of these services, for a lot less money and about 10 minutes of your time you can spread fertilizer yourself as you deem fit for your lawn, not what some automated scheduler deals out from their central office. I picked up all 4 steps for $160 for 15k bags and got a $30 rebate. that is enough to cover the acre I have.

It really seems like everybody has a problem with them. We are currently using them as new homeowners. They seem like they're doing a decent job. I would like to switch for next year to a local landscaper. I just don't know if trugreen really has experience and knows what they're doing.

I use TG at my home in Alabama. When they took over my lawn looked really bad. My neighbors' lawns looked worse. So we all 3 made the plunge. The first few months it didn't look great, slightly better than my work. Then about six months in I noticed the lawn was thicker and other neighbors were asking what we were doing.

Now it has been about 18 months. Our lawn looks fantastic. Weeds are mostly gone, you will always have weeds as long as you have neighbors, dogs, birds, etc. But I went from 40% weeds to about 3% in 18 months. Cut your grass as they recommend. Water it as they recommend. Get your aerations once a year.

With TG, if I need extra service I just call and they come out and retreat as needed. I've used others in the past, did it myself (and I don't have the time to run to Lowe's, buy fertilizer, weed kills, lime, etc) and if I screwed up, I had to spend more money.

I did my research, in our town they have about 15,000 customers, and from talking to my rep they lose about 10% per year. Seems like an awful lot, but they are the biggest in the country and people will get poor results or bad service from every company these days.

I also found that when I had the chance to talk to the tech, I got much better results. They gave me a ton of information to help me fix some problem spots. When we make the move to CT permanent and buy a new home, I'll give them a call.

TG is the best one I've had out of all. If you've been shopping, they are not "out there" in terms of prices so they are competitive. So far, I had them for about 2 years and it's worth every penny IMO.

How long does it take to notice a difference in your lawn with them?

You will notice the weeds getting under control after 3-4 treatments, but the real key was near the end of the first year. In Bama the bermuda goes dormant, and you can see the various weeds breaking through. With TG, my winter weeds were non-existent.

It isn't an overnight, or even a couple of months - it does take a while.
