My wife and I are looking to buy a townhouse somewhere in Fairfield County CT. We'd like to stay as close as possible to the metro north harlem line train station as she works in Valhalla NY. Any suggestions on the nicest areas to buy a townhouse within proximity to this train station? Thank you

Welcome to Connecticut it one of most expensive state to live in and FFC is the most expensive area in the state and one of most expensive in the country once you get to closer to NYC. Can you give us a budget so we can suggest towns you should look at.
We're looking at 1 to 2 bedroom townhouses for about $300,000. My research on certain parts of Fairfield show that I can get a lot more for my money than I can in parts of Westchester County. Westchester County is expensive enough in itself....
Look into New Fairfield. There are townhouse style condos in your price range and also shuttle bus service to the Harlem line Metro North. You would have to drive to the shuttle bus station however.
If schools are not an issue I would recommend Danbury. There are a lot of beautiful condos and townhouses there in your price range and you are not far from Southeast station which has parking and I believe offers bus shuttle services to Danbury. I'd recommend trying to find a townhome in Danbury. There are plenty of options and complexs. In Danbury, there are commuter lots in Western Danbury that you can park and there is bus service to the downtown Brewster,NY train station. $300,000 gets you an updated 2 bedroom 2.5 bath townhome with a finished lower level and at least a 1 car garage. You might even find 3 bedroom place.
There are no condos or townhouses in New Fairfield, unless you are over the age of 55, and then your options would be limited to two communities only, both of which are near the center of town and both are close to the shuttle bus stop: Woods at Dunham Pond; or Stoney Way. For everyone else under the age of 55, you're only option is to either rent or buy a single family home.
Your best bet would be to look in Danbury and as close to the NY border as possible. The shuttle bus from the exit 1&2 park & ride takes 10 minutes, and the train ride to GCT from Brewster station is 75-80 minutes.

There are several higher end townhome communities scattered throughout Danbury. For your budget, I would recommend Sterling Woods, Kensington Woods, Arlington Woods, Briar Woods,Lake Place,Woodland Hills,Lexington Mews, Westville Commons or possibly Timber Oaks. Each community had its own feel. Roving ton would be the closest to the NY border but the price point is more expensive and your budget would get you a small single story unit with a common enterance and no garage.
