^^^Hammonasset near the boat launch and the shower facilities. Other lots were closed as we came in so parked by Meg's nature center walked to the shower/concession area. No place to sit the chairs walked over to other side by the jetty and literally were on the pavement almost. Water was murky and muddy. I swam by I don't know what piece of trash in the water like I am done. It's a shame I go down a lot during late spring and early fall. Know water's not the warmest, but love just walking the beach.

I know summer can be packed, but like I said been to beaches in the summer in states near by you have room to lay out and near dunes not the road. Again a bummer.

The other lot's to different beach area sand is more finer. This sand was loaded with crush shell's where we were.

The 2 times I've gone, I've gone to the furthest beach from the entrance and it's been pretty nice. The water would not have been muddy. Maybe it was algae.

It's not significantly better than Milford beaches for me to go often. I do love the town beaches in Madison though. The spot by the hotel and Surf Club is stunning.

Maine beaches... fine until you step into water cold enough to take your breath away. Late summer/early fall the water does get above 65F, but it'll be below 60 well into July.

And Old Orchard Beach is not really a "Maine" beach. It's more like the official provincial beach of Quebec.

The sound gets small waves unless there's no wind. Don't see much trash at the beaches I frequent.
Yes, the Great Lakes...

Actually going to Hammonasset on one of the trails read one of the educational boards they had...anyways the Sound use to be called Conneticut Lake. Could explain the sediment. Curious if they built a canal or some type of natural land bridge closer near NYC; would that prevent the Sound from being affected by pollutants.

I'm not a fan on the midwest either. Just pointing out that there ARE lakes that look like the LI sound. It would be a tough choice for me if I had to choose between CT and the midwest. I would consider Minnesota and that's about it.

west>south>new england>midwest>tristate IMO.

I was casually checking out the cost of used (very used) boats and stumbled across a 35ft express cruiser (basically a small weekender yacht) that was "only used in fresh water". When I saw it was from Michigan I realized those lakes must pretty darn serious if someone purchased a 300-400k pleasure boat to cruise around in! I saw quite a few 30'+ boats for sale in Chattanooga too. I can't imagine people in TN are trailering oversized loads all the way to the shore. maybe? So I assume there are significant lakes in east TN as well.
