Which do you like the best and why- assuming all things financial, commuting, schools etc being equal?

Glastonbury. Can't say why. Nice vibe, not completely rural which I find Simsbury to be, more organized recreation activities. Both places are nice. It's all preference.

Commuting from Simsbury can be a problem. There are no major highways into the Farm goon River valley which can make for a longer commute depending where you work. Both towns though have great schools and lots of great activities for families. Both towns also have a lot of shopping and restaurants in them or nearby. You do not indicate your budget or what you expect to get for it but both towns are similar in prices though I believe Glastonbury is a bit more expensive. Which is best for your family is your choice. Jay

Both lovely towns. Outside of the important points Jay makes about the commute, this is a situation where I'd find the best home in your price range the meets your needs in either town. Most people I know are happy in both places.

I'm a bit biased here, but Simsbury gets my vote. Beautiful town, top-notch schools, and many recreational opportunities.

Simsbury is a lovely town. Glastonbury is kind of meh for me. When I think of Glastonbury I just think of strip malls.

Strip malls? Glastonbury does have a few but so does Simsbury. Glastonbury also has the great shops at Somerset Square and Eriktown Square, both very nice upscale mixed use centers. Jay

It also depends on what you prefer. If you prefer semi-rural then you might like Simsbury more. As others mentioned commuting is another factor.

If you travel around the state, Glastonbury is definitely in a better location.

Strip centers in Simsbury are limited mostly to the SW corner that borders Avon and Canton. Farmington Valley Mall and a few other strip centers nearby. Aside from that I think the only other one located in Simsbury is the College Highway Shopping Center (not sure if it still called that) on Hopmeadow St. (Route 10) across from the International Skating Center about a mile or so south of the Granby border. Can't recall any others unless something has been built recently since my last visit to Simsbury two years ago.
