Hi All,

Looks like things are changing and I will need to purchase health and dental insurance, rather than having it provided by wife's employer.

Should I use an insurance broker, or should I go straight to the health insurance exchange? Thanks.

Depends on how much "hand holding" you need... I think a broker is helpful so they can give you plan comparisons. They do it for people day in and out and can point out things you might not catch yourself. This being outside open enrollment season, it should be easy to find and book some time.

Fortunately, the Connecticut exchange is pretty good, I've worked with a few "neophytes" to help them get coverage without too much difficulty. Even if you use a broker, it would be a good idea to spend time on it to learn the options.

Expect to spend plenty of phone time if you go alone, but you'll get your policy.

Go with a broker. The price isn't different and they can compare non-exchange plans for you too.
