Curious if anyone is a member of the Y? Bit pricey loved it when I was able to receive a discount due to my employer. Think Waterbury has the best Y in the State, but a royal pain to park. Was reasonable about $48 a month, but I payed around $15 due to my employer.

I like that the Brookfield Y has an outdoor pool.

Thinking of joining back up with the Naugy Y. Their hours are a bit odd closed Sunday, but I usually workout at the gym early mornings during the day.

Anyone ever go to the Naugy Y?

I never thought joining the Y was expensive considering what you get. Pool and exercise clubs are pricey and I thought the Y was on the lower end of the price range but I have not checked prices in a long time. Jay

I'm a Waterbury Y member and while I love it, it's likely not the "best" in the state although the parking has been just fine since they added on to the lot.. Darien and Westport have fairly new facilities that are quite stunning. Naugatuck is Ok, but I like Waterbury better. They are both in old buildings that can't be added to, but they still do a nice job. I've found that every Y is more bang for the buck.

Re: bang for the buck - it depends on your income. For me, I found it to be grossly overpriced.

I agree Westports new Y is stunning. Haven't seen Darien's yet but heard it is nice. Jay

Can I ask why? What would you recommend as an alternative? Jay

Are you in Ffld Countr? then yes I'd agree. Then again....don't you have access to all Y's if you join one in state?

Because the fee is > $100 a month for a family with an above average income. For me, I would only use weights and other gym amenities. I can use the same weights at the Edge for $20/month. It's just not worth it to me.

I agree that the fee for families with higher incomes is not the best deal around. I choose to pay the higher rate at the Y only because it is walking distance for my kids from our place. I believe the rates are higher because low income members have their rates subsidised.

I've found that most Y's in other parts of the country will honour your membership. I've used the Y in Pittsburgh, Seattle, Cleveland, Louisville and Atlanta without a problem.
