With that work site and budget S Windsor would be first on my list.

I'd consider Newington also. That budget isn't going to get far in the towns you listed.

can you get more for your money in Newington? Yes, you can. But, Farmington offers lowers taxes and better schools and you can still get a nice house for $330,000.

You also have a longer commute and must go through some of the worst traffic in greater Hartford. Not worth it IMHO. Jay

South Windsor is a beautiful town with very good schools. The OP will likely get more for their money there than Glastonbury. It would be second on my list but then again I am a bit biased because I live in Glastonbury (my No. 1). Jay

West Hartford gives you the best resale value and potential. It's consistently tops in the state in # of single family homes sold every quarter (#1 last quarter), along with FFC juggernauts Stamford/Fairfield/Norwalk. The other towns don't come close.

On the flip side of that coin, if your settling in for the long haul your tax bills will keep going up quick and West Hartford already has a fairly high millrate. Combine high real estate value and millrate, a house in West Hartford sgft to sqft and acre to acre tends to be much more expensive then the other towns mentioned. Also in that price range your looking at smaller and older homes in West Hartford. Now if you really like the feel of West Hartford go for it, but it's not a great value.

mill rate between Glastonbury and West Hartford is not all that different.

A few miles on 84 may be slow through Hartford, but it's not a significant slowdown. It's not like the OP would be traveling across Los Angeles or Houston

I don't disagree but I see little reason to choose Farmington over Glastonbury for the OPs needs. We're taking about 30 minutes commuting vs 10 minutes. It's sort of a no brainer.
