OMG...bottom line is you just can't please everyone and some people have this weird need to one-up others. To the OP, go with what feels good for you. Both school systems are good and if you are good parent, your kid will do well wherever. Choose where you feel comfortable living and take other people's opinion with a grain of salt. My sister's kids graduated from Staples, I have three in Region 16 and I had one in Waterbury. Trust me, they're all smart kids and one isn't better than the other. When they talk(ed) about school, there was no discrepancy in what one was learning and what one was not learning. While there's obviously a different atmosphere in terms of education prioritizing among the rest of the students' families...that didn't hinder my kid and in Bethel, it's not something you even have to think about.

Just what I have heard. That's all

I have NEVER heard anyone complain about the schools in Westport or that left town because of them. Staples High School is consistently ranked one of the best in the state from most viewpoints. Westport schools are excellent and I doubt anyone would argue otherwise. Jay

Just because you've never heard of it, doesn't mean it hasn't happened. People come and go everyday from lots of places.

I'm sure people have complained about them...only because there are people that will constantly complain. On the legit side, some people just might not be comfortable in the town. My sister had to stand down a lot of material expectations (I have to do even in region 16) and I get some parents not wanting to deal with that.

Lol yea, seriously. For every one person who complains about Westport schools, there are probably 10 million families who would love to send their kids there...

Anyway back to the thread. Bethel is middle class, Ridgefield is extremely wealthy... it's one of the top most affluent towns in the state. Always ranked high on every list. If you can afford Ridgefield, I'd go for it.

We will be stretching to be in Ridhefield, but would be happy with a modest home. It has everything we want, including the school system. We just came across a very nice house in bethel in our search for a home and are tempted by the prices. I absolutely love the feel of Ridgefield and how the town is maintained and preserved. I also have a son who needs supports like speech therapy and wondering how he will be accepted in a district that seems to be affluent and held to high standards academically. Of course I think that's great but also want my kids to feel comfortable.

Move where you want , but school-wise it doesn't make much difference.

Congrats on making a choice. Ridgefield has a great system in place for students with special needs, and due to past lawsuits, have started upgrading the program even more, stretching the budget to the point where other departments are have to freeze accounts till the dust settles. Bottom line, great programs, and as any great school system, students and education come first.
