I will be graduating college in May and will be starting a new job in North Haven. I need suggestions as to where to live that is fairly close to North Haven. I lived in New Haven this past summer while working at an internship but really never explored other towns nearby. Any suggestions for a young, college grad about where to look to live? Probably do not want to live in New Haven. I will be renting..... Thanks.

You could live right in North Haven. Some apartments & condos available for rent. Decent shopping and the big box stores. It would put you very close to New Haven for entertainment. However, North Haven is more family oriented than attractive to young singles.

I would also suggest you look into Milford, which is about 20 minutes away. It has plenty of rentals and some decent night life. Another possibility is Middletown, although maybe about 25 minutes away. Again, more attractive for young people as there is a Main St. with some night life.

Hamden and New Haven have diverse rental stocks and lots of people your age. You just need to be mindful of neighborhoods, as there are some super sketchy ones.

North Haven, Wallingford and Hamden. The less commuting you do on the highways in southern CT, the better.

I agree. I would start in North Haven and then check Wallingford. Hamden is not my favorite since there are some sections near New Haven that can be sketchy so that would be my last recommendation. Jay

I would do Milford or Hamden
I think I would pick Middletown over Wallingford for a 20-something

Agreed. Wallingford would be pretty boring for someone in their early 20s.

I used to stay with there in brairwood apts right in the center of north haven. Stay away from those. Bugs were everywhere, management sucks and still haven't got my security deposit back that they promised when i first moved. I moved from there 2015 but some of the same people that was there still is. With that i would start in hamden because its closer with cheaper apts and more to do. North haven apts are pretty pricy. You can try wallingford but i always thought wallingford farther plus i was use to and knew more people in new haven

Why do you not want to live in New Haven?

That's where I would choose, hands down as a young person renting and working in North Haven.

East Rock would be perfect. Maybe the new Corsair apartments on Upper State Street.

That's a very small part of Hamden near Dixwell. The rest of Hamden borders East Rock and Prospect Hill, which are very safe and nice parts of New Haven.
