That's where their family lives, as they stated.

Agree with Bethel (nice walkable downtown and good amenities), Newtown, and Southbury as suggested towns.

Well, I think the vast majority of people care about saving money. That's why CT isn't known for being a top retirement state.

It is the view and proximity to family. . It is more rural than the town we live in but New Milford is quite nice. Still exploring.

I have to look more closely at cost, such as insurance, taxes, etc. I think it may not be much different from MA.

I think you're right. Northern FFC is pretty similar in cost to Essex County MA. My guess is day to day expenses in CT may be a bit higher (gas, utilities) and property tax. Home prices are likely similar.

No worries about medical service. Some of the greatest ambulance corps in Sherman and New Milford. Also depends where in Sherman. If closer to New Fairfield closer to Danbury Hospital. If closer to New Milford close to New Milford Hospital.

I would say the North Shore is similiar to lower FFC. Shernan and Litchfield County are beautiful. It's quiet, less congestion, rural, and beautiful fall foliage.

I second Southbury or New Milford if want a rural area eith amenities. Southbury has lots of health clinics. 30 minute drive to hospitals in Danbury and Waterbury. Southbury in the process of building a play house and movie theater, should be interesting. New Milford also has a movie theater and walkable downtown.

I also reccomend North Stonington area and Mystic (Stonington) a New England coastal area.

Yeah, but Essex County goes all the way to the NH line. Sure, it has Lynn-Lynn-city-of-sin, Salem, Beverly, Gloucester. And Andover/Lawrence. It also has semi-rural Georgetown, Ipswich, and Rowley. The county doesn't reveal much about where they live other than it's north of Boston and east of I-93.

If you live around the northern tip of Candlewood Lake, it's not like you're taking a dogsled to get to retail and services. I used to live in a cottage at the southern tip a bajillion years ago my first job out of college. You're not going much more than 10 miles to get to pretty much anything. There's commuter rail to NYC so you can day trip to Manhattan pretty easily. In Sherman, the property taxes are Massachusetts-like. $20.33 mill rate but on 70% of the value of your house. Depending on income sources, Connecticut might be a bit less state income tax than Massachusetts for a retiree. Mass doesn't tax state/local pensions or Social Security. Some people retire and don't pay any state income tax. If you're mostly corporate pension and/or IRA/401(k) distributions, Mass is likely higher since it's a 5.1% flat tax. Excise tax on a car is painful in Connecticut.
