I live on Long Island, in Western Nassau County. I am thinking of doing a day trip to Mystic.

I know there's a ferry from Orient to New London. I live about an hour and a half away from the ferry. The ferry is the last resort for me... but if I have to do it, I will.

Thinking either a train, bus or drive, but will drive up the 95, not the ferry. Is there ample parking in Mystic if I were to drive?

Is Mystic do-able for a daytrip from Long Island?

Are there trains or buses that run from NYC to go there?

Good things to do there...?

Thanks for your help!

The Port Jeff- Bridgeport ferry is also an option if driving.

Check out the Stonington part of Mystic (less touristy than Mystic proper).

Agree the Port Jeff ferry is the best bet. There is plenty of parking in Mystic just may have to walk a bit into the center of town. The Seaport museum is the main draw. If you have a car alot of the neighboring towns offer some fun things to do. Harkness park in Waterford is very nice, for example.

Also on the train there is an Amtrak stop in Mystic. It's pretty close to the center of town not a bad walk at all.

If you mean Stonington Borough, it is not technically part of Mystic (and yes, it's a must see).

I looked into Amtrak but the times I wanted are all sold out (the 7A leave NY, & the 8p leave MYS)... there's not a whole lot of variety on times... cuz the next one would get me there like 1p or something and by that point the morning is shot.

I will probably just end up driving.

How far is Bridgeport from Mystic if I were to take the Pt. Jeff Ferry?

Is it worth bringing my dog or leave him @ home?

If you like breweries or wineries, Beer'd and Jonathan Edwards in Stonington are nice stops too.

Watch Hill in Rhode Island is a good place to go too.

Bridgeport > Mystic is a little over an hour generally.

Port Jeff be easier. I mean depending how friendly your dog is can bring him a long. I know I've seen dogs at the Olde Mystic Village. A daytrio is doable just plan where you are going.

Going to the Aquarium, walk along New London Waterfront try some great restaurants, visting Fort Griswold, going to Olds Mystic Village, going to the Seaport, going for a walk on trails & beaches in the area, checking out Stonington Borough/Check the Lighthouse out, going to the Outlet Mall, the Casinos, and so forth. Lots to do in that area can easily make a day or even a few days.

Also I believe the Dog Watch Cafe in Stonington has a dog friendly patio.

Marley's Cafe in Essex (the only restaurant in the state on its own island) is also dog friendly, as well as The Place in Guilford and The Stand in Branford.

Thanks. I don't want to bring the dog if I can avoid it but if I can't get anyone to watch him, I may have to.
