Hi, heading up to Goodwin this Friday on the edge of East Hartford.

I was thinking of going 91 then 5 or 3 from there. Figure can leave at 6 hope to get to Wethersfield by 7 for a quick stop before heading to Goodwin.

Just never made this drive in the morning and curious on traffic flow?

Thanks!

If you take 91 to 3 to 2, traffic doesn’t fire up in East Hartford and Glastonbury until about 7:10. You should be free and clear. Usually any time before 7:30 is just a brief slow down, it gets bad after 7:30.

I would definitely avoid going I-84 through Hartford. Traffic is bad through there even early in the morning. It sounds like you were avoiding it anyways but thought I should emphasis that.

You also definitely should avoid using the Charter Oak Bridge (Route 5/15) to cross the Connecticut River. Exit 29 on I-91 northbound backs up for more than a mile and a half every day. It is better to use the Putnam Bridge (Route 3) to cross the river over to Route 2. Exit 25/26 is a bit slow but usually moves. You then may hit traffic where Route 3 comes onto Route 2 westbound but that should be only for a mile to the Main Street exit. Jay

Sweet good to know. Especially if I do plan on attending the University. Thanks a bunch.

So took a gamble left at 800AM in hopes of missing Rush Hour Traffic and it paid off. Took 691 to 91 then Rt 3 to Rt 2. St 3 seems like it can be a nightmare in the morning though. Have to play it by ear. I don't know how it be in rush hour but got now it's an alternative to I-84.

Well done! Also, Friday traffic in the area is always way lighter than other days of the week. Even more so when the weather is nice like today. Glad to hear it worked out!

Yea yea...Traffic and driving give me agita. So hopefully if I can get into the nursing program up at Goodwin only have to go up 2 days a week and have an alternative to 84.

Coming back was a little more congested guess more lanes make a bigger difference.

Glad it worked out. Route 2 this morning was unusually light when I was on it. Normally there is slow traffic from Glastonbury to the Main Street - East Hartford exit where the southern end of Pratt & Whitney is. After that Route 2 is fine until you get to the ramp to I-84.

Route 3 is not that bad either. The ramp from I-91 northbound to the Putnam Bridge sometimes is slow but it almost always is moving. Beyond that it moves very well. Jay
