I honestly lost track at over 30 FAMILIES, not people who have fled the state for greener pastures, including several retired state employees who took their retirement package to Florida. One couldn't even sell his house and is renting it to his kid. I would consider moving but taking care of an elderly parent, and my stepson decided to make me and my fiance grandparents, so "Oma" won't consider a move right now. My oldest daughter wants out, but up to Boston, so more or less a lateral move cost of living wise. My youngest graduates college in May, not sure of her plans, but I can see her staying in MA in the Springfield area if she gets the right job.

30 families seems a bit extreme and I’m not sure if I believe that.

I will say, most people I know have plans to retire somewhere cheaper, because we consistently rank one of the most unaffordable states for retirees (and getting worse).

I know a couple who left for SC due to it being cheaper, I know a family of 5 who left for CO, I know a family of 5 who left for Montana, and a family of 4 who left for Florida. I also know a single guy who left for Florida as well. So in total that makes 17 people. Actually my neighbors just left for the south as well a couple who was retiring. So 20 I guess

Agree on all counts. I know of 2 that have left, both pursuing job opportunities in other states. Many people I know who are established here don’t plan on retiring in CT but as for people my age (30s/40s), I don’t see a mass exodus. I guess this anecdotal data all depends on the crowd you run with.

Not the whole family but many members in at least 5 families. The rest are mostly staying until they retire, or plan on staying but also buying a place elsewhere part time.

My ex retired and still lives here, my cousins will retire and stay here but plan on renting out part of their house to help with expenses. I don't know about anyone else's future plans.

I just moved here from MA and people in MA move to Florida too. It's for warmer weather and lower cost of living and it's not just people from CT. They don't want to pay for schools anymore and they are sick of snow and cold.
