State Migration Rates, Net Totals: 2011-2016

3 straight NET migration years in excess of -10,000 = thousands of families, plus individuals

Whether we know them personally or not.

If not for immigrants, Ct would be losing population. We are losing 10k plus native population net the latest 3 years shown here.

Am I the only one who finds it slightly funny when people say people "fled Connecticut". When I think fled, I think people fleeing Nazi occupied France.

I know a few. Maybe a dozen. A few were families that left for their careers. The rest were retirees looking for warmer climates. A couple are snowbirds who go south for the winter but are here from spring to the holidays. I know one who keeps track of the days they are in Florida. They stay 6 months and a day to avoid the state income tax. He did admit that he was not saving as much as he thought since they have to pay for airfare several times to be here for family events. He questions whether it is all worth it. This is why I remind people of this when considering doing the same thing. Jay

Does Nep321 Count?

I know three people who moved out of state because their spouse was transferred to California/Texas. I know a bunch of people who retired to different places.

I know a guy who is moving to Boston for a new job.

No one "fled"...

I also know three people who moved their families out of the city and back to Connecticut...

That's weird that the OP knows a lot of people that "fled." I imagine if you looked carefully, you'd see a mix of job transfers, retirees, etc...

Interesting. Not one person I know has questioned whether it was worth it.

Smile I did

I'm not a family - single retiree who moved to Delaware. I wanted a 55+ community with amenities and they were just unaffordable in Ct. and not very many of them. Found the perfect place, but it took me several trips.

I know multiple couples that have retired to Florida, Arizona and SC.

I also know 2 couples, all teachers that have left CT to states that don't tax their pensions.

I know two brothers that moved to Florida because CT has too many "welfare bums" and taxes are too high. They would fit in nicely with the group on this board.

I know a married couple that plans to retire in Florida and are only a couple years from retirement.

3 in the past couple years.

One to South Carolina (lower earners), one to North Carolina, one to Bay Area (high earners).

Many of my classmates moved away for various reasons, but lots also stayed. Many of the highest earning people in my class are still here, or in NYC/Boston.
