We could be sitting in the dark for multiples of weeks and hotels are not open for business.

This also will eliminate the ability to work from home and this is frightening to think about. Gas stations also closed.
It wasn’t 6-12 weeks when all of the transmission towers came down in the ‘98 ice storm. Line workers are essential employees - thanks for bringing the unnecessary drama.

We never had the social distancing guidelines to go with it so this is a situation that can’t be compared to 1998

I would think a more comparable storm (forgetting the times we are in) would be a very similar storm to what is predicted tomorrow that occurred in March, 2010 anyway.

I actually think our current conditions might make it EASIER to restore power than usual. There are few issues of cars being on the roads, etc. Yes, it will make work at home a problem if there are massive outages but wouldn't it have made going to work a problem anyway? (One thing I remember about the March 2010 storm is many FFC school districts were closed for up to a week due to blackouts).

The one issue I can think might be a problem is getting crews from other parts of the country to help, though part of why that might be a problem is simply that they might be needed in the South right now with their own (and likely greater) storm issues.

Let's just wait and see what (and if) things happen and take it from there.....they could also allow hotels to be open for this purpose if need be! And who said gas stations are closed?

Exactly!! Let the essential workers have room to do their thing.

March 2010...still burned in memory. Probably kicked off the slew of big storms for the next 2 yrs after that. But all the pruning they been doing should be another factor that will help

I'll start posting maps and radar tomorrow morning

We cant even plant outside until May so planting outside in April would be a good thing! Longer growing seasons!

*** CHARGE YOUR PHONES ***

Or Go to best buy and pick up a car adapter to run a laptop, lamp and chargers if power goes out.
Some new efficient refrigerators could run off those things

Freezing extra ice cubes into Zip lock bags. I also put a ton of bottles of water in the freezer. If power goes out put the frozen bottles in the fridge. Could buy you extra couple hours during outage.
