That’d be more like Blue Back Square in West Hartford.

The only problem is it may cannibalize and segment shopping away from mall. Seems like a long shot.

Yes, do that. Raze the mall. Level the whole thing, just get rid of it, all the way to a blank slate. Build up a Ridge Hill Yonkers type of district.

Sadly it looks like the once grand Crystal Mall in Waterford is going up for auction. The starting bid is just $2 million. It will be interesting to see what it goes for and if the new owner can revitalize it. Given it is the only mall in southeastern Connecticut you would think it would be a slam dunk but maybe not. The key will be finding a good strong anchor to come in. Maybe Boscov’s, Wegman’s and/or Stew Leonard’s. Fingers crossed

No shock. I have seen it on some of the most distressed mall lists.

I just realized I didn’t include the link to the article on the mall auction. Here it is below. Jay

Anyone hear if CT Post is going to do any new proposals for the apartments?

Maybe they are waiting for a new mayor first (Ben Blake is out in June)?

I wouldn't call that encouraging. The Enfield Mall is on life support. They had to tear down part of it because it was unsafe. Meriden is slightly better but neither have any stores that make the mall a destination beyond locals who frequent chain stores.

I have heard they are suing the city. Now that is likely a negotiating tactic. We must get this done.

The Trumbull mall recently had a zoning change to mixed-use. There are already 250 apartments being built and some are going to start leasing pretty soon. I just looked up the apartments and some are being leased on July 15.

I sat in on some of the meetings with the previous mall owners online when they were talking about the zone change. In the future that entire area will look more like a little downtown instead of a mall.
