I just heard on the news that they are putting back the requirement that you need to look for a job to get unemployment starting May 30th in CT. It should be interesting to see what happens with the unemployment rate in CT.
I have a friend that has collected for a year doing nothing willingly. Just laziness. Glad he’ll have to face reality again.

Ct rules are still too lax, require just 1 actual application per week. This is simply a window dressing , so called "enforced" looking for work policy.

You are wrong. The State requires at least three applications per week. I know someone that just was unemployed before the pandemic and they had to prove they applied at least three places each week. The state even checked on them to confirm what he reported was correct. That’s in line with what other northeastern states require as well. Jay

3 was the former rule. 1 is the current rule. 3 I'd agree with.

"Those filing for unemployment insurance must document their efforts to find a job and make “reasonable weekly work search efforts” by contacting at least one employer a week for a job they are reasonably suited based on work experience, skills, knowledge, and ability."

I just saw one of my friends yesterday and she said the same thing about applying for the jobs. She had two part time jobs and went back to one but she has to proof she is looking to replace the income from the other job.

Kind of like NY in a way as I'll describe here. I have a friend who works p/t in retail and would normally (too little hours) qualify for unemployment but got it under the pandemic rules when his store closed down for 4 months. Still got it when he went back (state even TOLD him to keep collecting unless he consistently makes over $500/week) but after 1 year they cut that off unless you actually lost the job outright (so he stopped getting it in early April). He tried to fight it and they basically laughed at him given what a "break" he got for so long.

But if you got the other special version of it (the one for if you are an independent contractor such as a real estate agent or something), you can continue it regardless until they actually wind down the program or you start to consistently earn more than $500/week (I don't foresee it getting renewed beyond the current September that would be a joke at this point). I have another friend like that.

People will just think of ways to work around it like asking a friend to cover up or just some other BS excuse. When it comes to money, there's no shortage of ideas to cheat the system.

Back to the $1000, what did you expect from this freebie giveaway state?
So, instead of stopping the bonus like others are doing, they are going to throw more money away.

Then again, this lamont buffoon is known for this crap like paying someone $250K to give updates on the virus for 3 months.
Come to think of it, I might have only seen that person on TV a couple of times.

Yes but what I know from the experience of some friends and family is that (at least in NY) they are not really looking deep into that if you are in one of the two "pandemic unemployment groups" who normally don't qualify for UI (p/t workers under a certain amount of hours and independent contractors). It will all end in September though....
