I'm not talking about federal welfare. Why would federal welfare be in the CT budget?

I"m talking about money CT spends on welfare programs for the poor for CT residents.

There's also local welfare program where each city spends on it's residents that comes out of their budget that has nothing to do with state budget.

I still want to know how are these people underserved?

Now, don't forget the Billions and Billions of dollars from private companies and non-profits.

You stated welfare comes out of the state budget. Can you show me the receipts of all the local welfare programs you think exist. I'm not aware of any. I know we don't have any in my town.

No income limits surprisingly.

Did I say "fed welfare" come out of the state budget? The bottomline is CT spends a lot of money on poor people.

Just because you live in a town that doesn't have programs for the poor, doesn't mean other town/cities don't. I'm not going to research for you. I live in Hartford, I know they do.

AGAIN, can you answer how are these people underserved when they are receiving all these benefits from the gov't as well as from private institutions and non profits?

Welfare is a bit of a generic term that people usually are against. But at the same point if you name specific needs they'd be more apt to support them.

The problem I see is poverty traps based on some basic facts

1) You can't expect a program to be open ended without restrictions or purpose

2) Seeing #1 puts terms and conditions for it

3) Denial or growing out of programs sends people back as they have to pay out of pocket for the same things they had for free

To note the US federal government spends more on the loss on the mortgage deduction than it does on food stamps. Most foreign aid from the US is actually food.

UBI would argue can be a interesting concept in lieu of programs as not all businesses want to deal with government bureaucracy.

It's easy to just say welfare but you really have to get into the nitty and gritty of programs. Not everyone qualifies for the same thing.

You just said again that welfare comes out of the state budget.

This is like an Abbott & Costello routine. Except they were actually funny.

who's to say what a set of rims will cost 18 years from now. Doesn't sound like much. Just raise taxes, people in Connecticut are loaded.

They’ll certainly raise taxes regardless, don’t you worry.

I know, right. The hell with these poor people and all the programs they get. F'em. Let em' rot.
What gives them the right. They get to live it up in a lap of luxury in public housing with rats and cockroaches while I'm stuck out on the Sound filling up a 300 gallon tank with marine fossil fuels tonite. The Gov should be paying for it. Why should I pay for it.
