hello folks,

Does anyone know a good fencing company or installer they can recommend? We're looking to install a 4ft high backyard picket fence(Vinyl) in Darien. Got a couple of quotes for 300ft and they're upwards of $15000, with an install date 12 weeks out.

Wondering if the cost is the usual FFC premium and if a local installer can give a better quote.

I live in Trumbull but I go to The "Orange Fence Company" in Orange. When I bought my house over 20 years ago I replaced an old picket fence and I have an arbor too. It still looks great. They do go down to Darien. I bet the price would be better than southwest Fairfield County prices.

Vinyl fences are surprisingly expensive. It’s just plastic. My family has used Colonial Fence and were happy. Can’t speak to if they are less expensive. You’d have to get a quote to see. I know Orange Fence that CTartist recommended is good too. Also ask neighbors who they have used. Jay

Posting an update: Colonial fence didn't return our call for a quote & Orange fence Co were booked up until mid-July to provide a quote. We decided to go ahead with the existing $15K quote from TSW landscaping & Fencing.

Yikes! That’s insane. It seems like you pay a possible premium to get it done fast or wait and delay to possibly save a bit of money. Not a great choice either way. Hope it goes well. Jay

That’s a lot for a fence that adds no privacy and is purely cosmetic and/or just to keep small kids and pets contained, good for you tho. Hartford county area and I got a new Goodman central AC / natural gas furnace system and a new asphalt paved side entry driveway for $13K total.

There’s no doubt things are pricier in Fairfield County but as I said earlier vinyl fencing is very pricey.

I know someone that did vinyl picket for a portion of their yard and I was shocked how much it cost. It is a very nice vinyl picket fence which was very well made, unlike some of the home improvement store specials you see. If I remember correctly they paid over $2,500 for a total of 50 feet. That included two gates but it was also about 8 years ago. Prices have gone up since then. At $50 a foot, the 300 feet the OP has would come in at $15,000. More if they have gates. Maybe the OP’s price is not as bad as I thought. Jay

The slope in the backyard is a safety hazard at this point without a fence to keep the kids from tumbling down on to rocks. Wouldn't spend that cash for cosmetic reasons.

I'm not sure about fast, the earliest it can be installed is early September! Other installers are even more backed up. The installer we're working with said he has 15 crews working daily and still has to push ours out 12 weeks given his backlog. Apparently Covid has been good to fence & pool installers.
