Hello so here is my story .. I recently got discharged because of tardiness , I am a single mother and I was having a lot of problems with babysitting , it was very hard for me to find someone that can put my daughter on the bus every morning so that I can go to work and to stay with her the days there was no school . Since Covid everything changed and in some places they only accept certain amount of kids in daycare because of it .I never called out or anything besides coming in late .. They sent me some paperwork to fill out and there was a hearing on the 13th but They told me I didn’t had to go to that hearing that I just had to fill the paper work out and send it to them also they send paperwork to my employer .. i been getting a code 42 for my weekly claims I wonder what that means .. they told me to wait 10 business days but I haven’t received any papers through the mail or anything like that .. I was wondering if I would qualify for unemployment ... i would appreciate any comments ..

I don't know but I want to make sure this is in Connecticut right? Otherwise you might want to post to the unemployment subforum of the Work and Employment forum (you may want to cross post there anyway).

Code 42 means the employer has challenged your claim for unemployment so it is on hold. That’s pretty nasty of them but not unusual these days. It’s a significant problem for many.

I don’t have any words of wisdom for you. If you don’t receive those papers soon, you may need to go into the unemployment office to find out what is going on. Good luck, Jay

OP, Were you written up in a formal way, and if so, how many times?

Documentation helps the employer in this case. Lack of that may assist you in protesting if not approved as a he said/she said case.

In addition, were you given an employee manual with disciplinary procedures detailed? That helps the employer. If not, it is a he said/she said.

That is why, folks, when manuals exist and orientation is done, employees must sign a form documenting what they received.
