My wife and I are looking at Simsbury as our primary town of choice in our pending move. We want to be towards the central part of the town. Looking at a district map, Central School, Latimer Lane and Squadron Line seem to be our landing points for Elementary schools.
Any specific differences that should be noted between these schools? Any school that is highly recommended over the other?
I recognize that Simsbury broadly speaking has fantastic schools and any of these options would be great choices but would love to hear input from others.
Squadron Line is the newest school in terms of when it was built. Opened in 1969 if I recall. I attended the school from 2nd grade through 6th grade during that time. Long time ago. I would imagine the other schools have been modernized in the last few decades though I don't think any have as much land around them like Squadron Line. Squadron Line is usually the highest rated elementary school in town.
You are right that all Simsbury schools are excellent. I wouldn’t worry about so much about which school your kids would go to more than finding a house that fits your needs and budget. With such low inventory, you might have a problem with that. You need to be flexible and open to choices. Good luck, Jay
Yep. Just moved to Simsbury! Welcome. Awesome restaurants, great food, cool town center, great hiking, friendly people. Tons of people from CT, then a lot of transplants from NJ MA NY in that order based on my experience.
I love Simsbury. The schools are also, supposively, amazing.
However, the market is competitive here. Good inventory = gone in 3 days.
Property taxes can vary quite a bit in town. The Tariffville section has about the least expensive property taxes in the town. Might want to look there if you have a certain budget restriction regarding taxes.
I should add when I was living there in the 60s through early 80's we had neighbors from all over the world. Canada next door. England across the street. Minnesota behind our house. PA next door. Maryland across the street again. Scotland a few blocks away and so on. Had quite a few transplants from southern states like Georgia, North Carolina and Virginia as well. One from KY not far away either. You will find a lot of people from all corners of the globe in the town.

I'm next door in Avon and I can say that all the elementary schools in Simsbury are excellent. At that age, it's more about the specific teachers each child will have rather than the curriculum at the schools themselves, and after school activities, as they will generally be fairly close.
The high school in town is excellent all around - good sports programs, as well as music and the other arts (their high school musicals are as good as many top private schools in the region)
My other half is a product of Simsbury schools, and they are excellent. According to her, it is less of a competitive environment than Avon and offers excellent curriculum.
Thank you for all the replies. This is very comforting to hear and more or less what I expected. We're excited to move to Simsbury and be immersed into the community. May rent for a year before buying to get a feel for the town but we're ready to go!
Thanks all!
