We are considering moving to CT from Jersey City NJ. I'm having trouble concentrating our search for our needs:
Family friendly: Ideally good public schools, nice parks, nice community of families (We have a 3 year old and want more kiddos). Would love a more laid back vibe if possible.
Health concerns: I have chronic illnesses and currently go to NYU. I need to be close to really good doctors. (Take an uber.) Also, I'd love a neighborhood that is more walkable. Driving is hit or miss and I don't want to feel like a shut in if I don't feel good.
I've thought about having an au pair long term to help with driving kids, but I do need some walkability for myself personally and I would love to be able to walk to kid activities.
Commute: My husband needs to commute to Central Park (east side) and Greenwich a time or two a month.
Space & Budget: Ideally 4 bedroom, 2,000 sq ft+, would love something in the $1M range but if we wait, we could do up to $2.5M. Less is better.

We could do Westchester, NY instead -- lots of NYU doctors in White Plains.
Lots of good doctors in Yale but hard to get there and still be ~2 hours from NYC.
How are things like allergists, rheumatology, maternal fetal medicine in CT?

You are describing New Haven, look at central Westville or East Rock neighborhoods. Good luck.

They said they wanted good public schools. New Haven does not have those.

You tend to find good schools in the more suburban towns where a car is more needed. You could try looking in Greenwich or Darien (likely Noroton Heights). These are probably your best options. Jay

Milford. Great walkability, nice homes at a million or under (can’t say that about towns more southwest), close to the Yale New Haven medical mega complex, good schools. Much more laid back than the wealthy Fairfield County towns.

Nice homes walkable to downtown and the train station come up for sale occasionally. That would be hard to beat. Many coastal areas are walkable too.

No, but they do have some superb private schools if that’s an option.

I would look in Rye. Walkable downtown. Good schools. Convenient to NYC and Greenwich.

Search by map view and focus on properties closer to downtown centers if you prefer walking to nearby amenities.
Centers are the very backbone of CT and CT has a ton of them in that general region. Inventory though is another story.
It's nearly impossible to feel shut in anywhere along the SW coastal areas of CT.
Best

Welcome to Connecticut !

The towns I will recommend is Fairfield, Milford, Orange, Trumbull for your price range they have good schools, low crime, access to train station which provide you Amtrak and Metro North, beach areas, shopping malls, things to do. The others towns I will suggested is Guilford and Madison but we are pushing it for going to Greenwich and NYC few times a month.
