I have seen some small and reasonably priced lake bungalows near Lake Zoar. Are there any other lakes in Connecticut with similar housing?

My friends in-laws had one of those Lake Zoar cottages. You rent the land from the utility company that owns the lake and land around it. It was a nice rustic place to hang out in the warm weather months.

My friend and his wife switched to a cottage in Madison about 15 years ago. They own the house and rent the land. It’s near Hammonasset and was surprisingly cheap. They love it there and actually just rebuilt the cottage. They open the place in April and close it in November. I’m not sure if other shoreline towns have similar communities. Kidyankee may know.

Thank you. I am looking to buy a year round lake house. But I don’t want anything big or fancy. To be used as a weekend getaway.

There are a number in the Hartford area. Andover, Coventry, Amston, Bolton, Candlewood. I think there is something near Barkhamstead.

Have you checked out this site?

Plymouth has couple lakes no one has ever heard about that fits the criteria I think. Lake Plymouth off 262 and Fall Mountain Lake right near the Wolcott line. Fall Mountain is more affordable I think.

There’s tons of (relatively) inexpensive beach bungalows here in Milford, mostly built in the 1920’s, but obviously the sound instead of a lake.

Mamanasco Lake in Ridgefield is another.

I now a guy who has a lake house up in Oxford. He's got a few neighbors there though that are a little on the sketchy side. Messy and dogs running around, crap all over the yard, rusty sheds and pickups.
Be mindful of that when looking at those places, do your due diligence.
