I’m not going to get into a place vs place debate. I’ll just put it this way: at the best bagel shops in NY, I didn’t need cream cheese. In Connecticut, I did. Not saying they’re bad in Connecticut - they’re just better in New York.

But for purposes of this thread, I’d say the bagels are better in Connecticut than most of New England.

Which two places did you try?

I haven’t had many bagels in NYC so I’m literally asking for your reco. We used to get Ess a Bagel at office in midtown and I thought they were average.

Ess a bagel was never that great - they’re more of a tourist trap than anything. Absolute Bagels and Liberty Bagels in Manhattan, or Utopia bagels over the Throgs Neck in Queens is excellent.

I’ve been to Olmo in New Haven, which was not at all a traditional NY style bagel, and AM bagels in Derby. Better, IMO, but still not as good as I’ve had in NY.

^Pun appreciated!

Seriously though, I'm still lamenting the closure of the Grange. That was my go-to, went there every week when I worked in the area.

Don’t be a snob. There’s zero of either in all of New England, so CT is in good company.

It may not be a slight based on quality, but just the fact that they totally ignore most regions that aren’t a major city. A lot is also PR/hype and that’s always more elevated in huge cities.

It's not about being a snob. The closest bib gourmand restaurant (i'm not even talking michelin) in CT is in...NYC. That's just the reality. I know bib gourmand places in manhattan where I can have a nice dinner for two for $100.

Texas is in the same predicament. Are you going to state they have no big cities?

Is bib gourmand rated Badageoni Georgian Kitchen in Mount Kisco located in big city?

If governor wants CT to be a foodie capital get at least one bib gourmand rated restaurant.

There's a blast from the past, as they like to say.
I didn't know people still knew or cared about Michelin ratings. I think it was the 90s the last I heard the term.
Never heard of bib gourman. Is the food so good you need a bib to eat it?

Bib gourmand is for people who don't want to spend $500 per person at michelin restaurant but want quality food. That's what I use all the time when in New York.
