The main reason I can think of is that New London has beaches as well as the Ocean Beach Park. Also I think it has a more small city feeling, while Essex is more town feel.

I'm telling you, I love New London and am really happy that it made it this far, but I personally won't be picking it over Essex. Essex is too charming of a town for me, and while I do love the Ocean Beach Park, Essex has the steam train & riverboat which are very iconic touristic attractions in the state!

Essex is one of the prettiest small towns in the country IMO

Old Lyme vs Groton - Old Lyme has better schools, but Groton has more overall. Not much in Old Lyme other than a decent public beach. You pretty much need leave town for everything.

Westport vs Middletown I'll take the college town with a little grit over Richy-Rich land.

West Hartford vs Newtown Pretty easy call for me here.

Essex vs New London I'm a big fan of New London and love an underdog story, but Essex has to take this. Too pretty, too nice, some decent places to eat, and Ivoryton Playhouse.

Ridgefield vs Norwalk It's close, but I'll take the SoNo and Rowayton over Ridgefield.

Branford vs Clinton I've been the big backer of Clinton this tournament, but it's just a notch below Branford. Branford's nicest is nicer and it's closer to New Haven.

Glastonbury vs Kent This feels like an impossible choice, but I think it has to be Glastonbury. As much as I like Kent as spot to visit, Glastonbury is one of the few towns not on the coast the I would live in.

East Lyme vs New Canaan East Lyme is one of my favorite towns east of the river. In fact, it's probably my favorite.

Old Lyme vs Groton - Groton has some blighted areas (esp. along Rt. 12 toward GF) but overall it's a great town - and has some stellar real estate in GLP, Noank, Mystic.

Westport vs Middletown - Middletown!!! Best of both worlds. Great downtown; some lovely rural areas.

West Hartford vs Newtown - fairly neutral to this one; I always feel like I can't breathe in West Hartford? Not relaxing. Newtown is charming.

Essex vs New London - I think Essex is the best town in the state tbh.

Ridgefield vs Norwalk - Also pretty neutral to this one; Norwalk seems to be booming!

Branford vs Clinton - Branford is a touch cuter with a little more going on.

Glastonbury vs Kent - Glastonbury is one of those towns you'd never have to leave if you didn't want to. South Glastonbury has stunning landscape.

East Lyme vs New Canaan - I do think EL is a bit overrated - but I much prefer it to NC.
