I never understood why the Utah Jazz never changed their name when they moved there from New Orleans.
Utah has never been known as a jazz hotbed.

Hartford should downsize the Civic Center to make it more size appropriate for the Wolfpack and maybe get the Sun up there at some point.
Speaking of innapropriate names, in what world does a CT team get called the Sun. I heard it was freezing and raining up there today.

Agree though "Utah Jazz" is kind of catchy.

I know you're kind of being tongue-in-cheek but I think it has to do with their playing at Mohegan Sun

Biggest market without a big 4 team is Austin, TX (those counting the Spurs as that market would be like counting the Sacramento Kings as a "Bay Area" team though they are trying to use that argument with the A's upcoming temporary move to keep Bay Area TV money). I don't know if Hartford is 2nd or what not on that.

Utah kept the Jazz name because:
  • officially the new owner wanted to show up the city of New Orleans if the team did better in SLC
  • unofficially, the new owner didn't want to spend money on new uniforms.

Do y'all really think an NHL team would be successful in Hartford? New York and Boston are just a couple hours away.

Ok

Yeah, Jazz has a great ring to it. It pretty much works with any state or city name.

The Hartford Jazz

The Connecticut Sun Women’s Basketball Team is owned by the Mohegan Indian Tribe. Like the Mohegan Sun Casino arena they play in, the team was named Sun. Thats why the team will never move to Hartford.

They're not going to downsize it because the Wolfpack aren't the only tenant. UConn men and women often get 16,000 so they aren't taking away seats. And then there's concerts, monster truck pulls, Trans Siberian Orchestra for people who truly hate themselves....

The Wolfpack do often curtain off the upper level.

True but I'm starting to wonder if they will do games at the XL Center when they play Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever. A lot of teams are suddenly having going to move games against them to their city's NBA/NHL arenas next year because of the extreme interest in seeing those games vs. the other WNBA games. I have no idea what the capacity of Mohegan Sun arena is though so maybe it doesn't matter.

It would make absolutely ZERO business sense for the owners of the CT Sun to move games out of their 10k seat arena to a competing arena in Hartford. The entire premise for building an arena in Uncasville to host concerts and sporting events was to draw more people to the casino where the real money is made. The only entry (and exit) into the arena requires visitors to walk through the casino. I would not be surprised if the arena was in fact a loss leader whereby it as an independent concern lost money but was more than offset by the additional spending and generated profit elsewhere in the complex (gambling, restaurants, shops).

The games against Indiana are already sold out and have been since she announced she was leaving college.

The massive ticket prices are resale and secondary market, not the initial tickets that were sold.

As stated, the Sun ownership will want people seeing that game to make a weekend out of it. Stay in the hotel, go to casino, go to the game, etc. They won’t care about selling extra tickets at face value in Hartford.
