AM THINKING ABOUT MOVING TO SEYMOUR CONNECTICUT ARE THERE ANY NICE NEIGHBORHOODS, AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS. I HAVE 2 CHILDREN AGES 8 AND 12 YRS OLD. MY HUSBAND AND I WORK IN NYC WALL STREET HOW IS THE PARKING AND COMMUTE TO BRIDGEPORT METRO NORTH.
Allmost all of Seymour is a *nice neighborhood*. It would be easier to ask the question 'what streets are not so nice'. The answer to that one would be that some have more traffic, less sidewalks, crosswalks, there are a few bars in town - you might not want to be near them.
There can be a pretty big range of home prices. Older homes or modest homes are better priced. There are lots of new houses going in that have more of the McMansion feel to them; those are priced to start around 440K up to 625K.
Also, I always say check the website familywatchdog.us which shows where the "registered offender crumbums" are living now. Sad but every single community has at least one.
Our child is still a toddler, I'm not sure of the activities for older kids. The towns sports teams did great this year, I know there is a skate park, and a teen room at the community center.
Hope you come, and if you do... welcome to the neighborhood
The commute from Seymour to Wall Street would be a real LONG haul. There are trains on the Waterbury line that will get you to Bridgeport. There you would catch a train to Grand Central Terminal where you must catch a subway downtown. I am not sure how long all of that would take but it certainly would be more than 2 hours. That is kind of a long commute everyday. Have you considered looking in New Jersey where there are better train service to downtown MAnhattan. Jay
Metro North has added new early morning service on the Waterbury Train Line that is supposed to not need a transfer in Bridgeport. They've advertised it will get you to Stamford by 7:40 am. I don't travel to NYC much, don't know how much further Wall St is. The trains stop in Seymour. Seymour right now has limited parking for the train station that is shared by downtown shoppers, and there are signs up that say 2 hour parking, however~ day parking passes are available (not sure where to get them though - there is no parking pass machine at the station). Seymour is hoping to eventually get a road put in that would connect Rt67 to Rt42 in BeaconFalls. If they get it approved by the DOT and get funding, then the MTA has discussed moving the Seymour Station and having more parking on the new road.
Also, there seems to be more parking one stop down at the Derby Train station.
The early morning train from Seymour gets you to NYC by 8:20am. From Grand Central you could transfer to the subway and take the 4/5 express train to Wall Street(about 15 minutes). I've heard that Metro-North might add another train in the evening to make the reverse commute easier at the end of the summer.
If you want to drive to Bridgeport there are several parking garages close to the train station. Many people do this because there aren't that many trains that run on the Waterbury branch.
Check with your employer if you can telecommute one or two days a week or get credit for getting work done on the train.
In CT there are many financial firms located in Stamford and Greenwich. You might be able to find a similar job to what you have now.
how is the area off of skokorat road near the new development baker rolling hills family homes, how would anyone rate the seymour elementary, junior and high school . also rate paul chatfield school?
Seymour schools generally perform around the state average on the Connecticut Mastery and Connecticut Academic Performance tests. Class sizes are around 20 students which is reasonable. You can get more information on the schools at the links below. Jay

The area is wonderful! lots of nice families, kids, good neighbors. My nephew is at Chatfield. They had a teacher at Chatfield get the "Best Teacher in the State" award this past year.
Baker residential is a different story. Right now their homes start 399,900 and go upward 650K and they seem to be beautiful. This was supposed to be a 2 phase development of single family executive homes (mcmansions). They have now said they are trying to break their deal with the town and convert the zoning approval in phase 2 from 52 homes to 360townhomes. The neighborhood can't handle the volume. The selectmen have unequivocally said they will fight Baker to the bitter end.
Skokorat Rd. is a 2 lane road with a great elementary school, the school kids walk, play ball at the school's front yard ball field, parents walk with strollers. Most of the road does not have sidewalks or cross walks, it is a narrow road already used as a cut through to Beacon Falls. It simply can't handle the traffic from 360 condos bringing over 700 cars going in and out 2ce day. Ok enough of my ranting about the Developers plan. The neighborhood is great.
