i'm going to be moving to black rock, bridgeport on the 28th of this month. quick background, i'm a former heroin addict, have months clean. probably going to be working in bridgeport if i don't get this job at the apple store in stamford. i've lived in fairfield and darien before (went to both high schools) so i know about bridgeport's reputation. which areas should i definitely avoid? also, are there any areas close to black rock where drugs are sold openly on the streets? obviously black rock isn't bad at all, in fact it's pretty nice, but areas that maybe i'd pass through to get to places like seaside park, trumbull or downtown bridgeport (train station, ferry). i'd like to avoid this so that temptation doesn't get in my way. thanks in advance.

also, what are the busses really like in bridgeport? they seem like they all go to trumbull from what i've read.

Generally, I recommend that when looking for a home in Black Rock, stay west of Ellsworth Street. East of the is a public housing project and there are issues there. I don't think that drugs are sold openly on the streets there (at least during the day when I have been in the area) but I am not that certain. Jay

Jetland Place should be good. Right in the heart of the Black Rock. I love Beverly Pizza and you are right next to it. Jay

i guess really also what i'm trying to ask is if bridgeport is really as scary as people say? having been to some of the worst areas on the west coast (LA's skid row and various other neighbourhoods, tijuana, san francisco's tenderloin, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera) and seeing that as long as you don't stick yr neck out, everything seems to end up alright. things can be scary but they're not as terrifying as people say. from what i've read in these forums, people genuinely believe that areas of bridgeport are crazily shady. is this actually the case?

Bridgeport's reputation is greatly exaggerated. True there are bad areas which you would not want to be driving around in after dark but most of the city is very nice. Jay
