My husband, 1.5yr old and I are moving from San Francisco to Southern Ct. I love the laid-back and relaxed lifestyle in SF and hope to find a town in with similar type of people, village closeby. . .coffee shop, yoga studio, easy train commute to the city. Any towns come to mind? Thanks!

Fairfield. It's the cheapest town in Fairfield county that is still on par with the other Southern CT towns, and really easy train access. You can get 4 bedrooms for still under 1 mil, rare in southern ct.

Sounds like either New Cannan or Ridgefield is the town for you .... if you can afford it

It's New Canaan, in case you're googling.

That could be a challenge in Fairfield County. Laid-back and relaxed are not normally terms applied to this part of the world.

That all depends on income, if the OP can afford to be relaxed, then they can be relaxed anywhere.

LOL I was thinking the same thing.

To the OP there are towns all up the SW Coast that would fit the bill. Your best bet is to visit each one and see which one fits you best as they all have a little different vibe.

Greenwich might be your thing...or Westport, but maybe Darien.

While southern CT is more laid back and relaxed than NY/NJ, it's still very high stressed and fast paced along the shore. This lasts all the way until Branford, IMO. It's a completely different world than the relaxed lifestyle of Northern CA.

The more inland you go, the more laid back it gets. If you can afford it, Ridgefield offers Fairfield County's version of laid back, but the commute to NYC can be tough. You'd probably take the train from Katonah or Norwalk. There is a station in Branchville (section of Georgetown/Ridgefield) but you would have to switch trains in South Norwalk.

Other towns I recommend are Redding and Weston, both are laid back, but are fairly rural with strictly residential neighborhoods.

Thanks for your responses! We're planning on renting a 2 bedroom condo or townhouse in Stamford, Greenwich, New Canaan or White Plains for 6-12 months to give us time to figure out where we'd like to settle. Does anyone have any recommendations for rentals considering that we have a 1.5 yr old and new baby on the way? Our budget is around 2500-3500/month. We don't have to be walking distance from the train but close is nice. Has anyone heard good things about Avalon Properties or Greenwich Shore apartments?
