I've noticed some really beautiful old victorian homes around Kossuth Street/Washington Park in Bridgeport. Is anyone familiar with the area? Any insight on quality of life, diversity, proximity of conveniences (supermarket, shops, banks), etc. will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

unfortunatly im not familiar with that exact area, but me and my bf just moved into an apt on coleman about a month ago and thus far no issues, we heard so much about how horrible bridgeport is, but it seems like every other town, some areas are rough, others quite nice.
i feel perfectly safe walking my small white fluffy dog, and have had lots of positive comments...

i can tell you though, in terms of groceries and acess to everything, it does seem like bridgeport is great for acessibility, everything seems to be within a 15 minute drive radius at most lol.

Not really sure about that area anymore. We used to hear in the old days that if your not from the area, then don't go anywhere south of Barnum Avenue after sunset, but I think a good portion of Bridgeport is being turned around one lovely old house at a time. I do love the architecture down there, there is some pretty spectacular stuff you won't find hardly any other place. However, Bpt also has its share of row apartment houses multi-level square boxes with square porches falling off at odd angles that are not quite as pretty.

The Washington Park area is the heart of East Bridgeport which was a "town" built by P.T. Barnum. It was a planned community of beautiful Victorian homes and sturdy brick factories. There are many beautiful old homes in the area and East Main Street is one of the main commercial districts in the city. Over the years since it was built in the 1800's, the area has seen its ups and downs. For the last 50 years though it has mostly been down. The area has many urban issues and problems which is a shame because if renovated, it could be very lovely. Attempts have been made over the years but IMHO they never really took off. Jay

Yes they are. That is the New Haven Line of Metro-North which is the main tracks between New York and Boston. This is among the busiest train tracks in the country. Jay
