My family is currently living in California. We really want to move to CT. My husband will need a job. He is a Microsoft Windows/system network/IT guy. Salary range needed is $80-100K. There doesn't seem to be very much work in his field of work in CT but, I'm sure we are just looking in the wrong places. Does anyone have any advice or know of any jobs available? Also, what is the best small town to raise a family in CT? We are not interested in living in a big city. My husband is willing to commute, if necessary.

My boyfriend has been looking for the same type of job here for about 4+ months with no solid leads, it's slim pickings everywhere.

DO NOT move here without having a job first.

Regarding the towns, there are 169 different towns with different resources, cost of living, personalities, etc. Find a job here first and THEN try to pick a town to move to within reasonable commuting distance.

I'm in IT Infrastructure Mgmt (I manage teams of networking and support staff), working in NYC now. I know there are very few positions open in this side of the house in CT - and those that do open up are usually filled very quickly, often through a personal referral. Most companies are either under a hiring freeze, laying staff off, or are simply hiring below fair market rates. Depending on which industry he has experience with, that range may be well above what CT is paying. If your husband doesn't have a personal network in the area, and can't get a transfer via his current firm, I would strongly advise against moving here without having a job first, unless you can potentially survive a year without finding placement. I'm possibly going to be on the market as well in the near future (another round of RIF's pending), and am not looking forward to it. Things are generally rough in the non-revenue generating fields.

If your husband is interested, have him PM me his personal email address and resume and I can share some of my local recruiters. They might be a good avenue, particularly if you are not looking for your new firm to pay relocation.

My husband agreed with Toddb that the job you are talking about would very likely NOT pay the salary range you are asking for in this area. It would be lower. Sorry
