Hi, I wanted to ask about the local newspapers or other news sources in Fairfield county. I'm looking for a good source of local news to help us get familar with the area to help us figure out which town we should move to. Any input you would like to share would be greatly appreciated!

The NEWS TIMES is from Danbury. It covers many towns within the greater Danbury area like Brookfield, Newtown, Bethel, Ridgefield, Redding, and New Fairfield.

I find Fairfield's two locals (Citizen and Minuteman) to be very good with a lot of local news and keeping up with local issues. I also find that the Connecticut Post is good at keeping up with local news as well.

I find that the papers in the Hartford area are very poor on local news and issues. The Courant covers a large area and does not cover local news that good at all. The Glastonbury Citizen is mostly advertisements and only has a couple of news items each week. You hear more through the local rumor mill than the newspaper. JMHO Jay

For REALLY local news community newspapers will give you a picture of the town -- certainly an idea of local activities, zoning issues etc. Acorn Press runs a chain of seven weekly papers . You can get daily updates at Hersam Acorn Newspapers. Brooks Community newspapers covers 6 more towns Brooks Community Newspapers Home Page (http://www.brooksnewspapers.com/ - broken link). As a former reporter for the Hartford Courant I advocate that as the best state paper but dont expect to find local Fairfirld County news. Sorry kristiv but the Courant may be good at reporting state political news but I find it seriously lacking in reporting local news. I read it extensively and do not think it covers the towns nearly as well as say the Connecticut Post does.

I do agree that the Brooks Community Newspapers are good (including their Fairfield paper). I wish they would expand into the Hartford area. I also like the Westport Now.com web site and the Huntington newspaper's website is good too. Jay

Depending were you are, but most are Gannett or another major and they just change the local with most AP/Rueters doing US and World. Danbury Times in the north, Norwalk Hour or Stamford Advocate in Southern. The WSJ or NY Times probably covers more Fairfield CTY news than the Hartford Courant. Try the small town weekly papers. When I lived in Ridgefield it was the Ridgefield Press which comes out on Thursday. Up here we have the ShoreLine Times that cover Madison and than another on Friday that covers Branford to Old Saybrook. That is were you will get to know the towns. Watch out though because they tend to be very septic and clean.

If you're in Stamford then the Stamford Advocate. If you're in Greenwich then the Greenwich Times. If you're in Westport then the Westport News.
