Hello!

I'll be commuting from New London to New-Haven about 4 times a week starting September. Does anybody know what hours of the morning are heavy traffic hours on the I-95 between New-London and New Haven, and what hours in the afternoon are heavy traffic hours on the I-95 on the way back to New London?

I mean what time does it start to get really bad on the I-95? between 6am and 8am? or is it 7am to 9am?

I'll assume that whatever isn't within these hours is a no traffic time.

Thank you,
Inbal.

Are you from California? I don't think people say "the" in front of the highway names here like they do in L.A. ("the 405").

Anyway. I think others who live the route can chime in more, but speaking of LA, my experience with 95 is it is the East Coast's closest thing to an LA freeway, but it is much more so from New Haven on west than from New London to New Haven. The Shore Line East commuter railroad (probably one of the smallest areas in the US to have such a thing) has cut down on traffic on your commute somewhat (before you ask about it, it goes out to Old Saybrook, not all the way to New London). I would say that traffic will mostly be bad as you approach New Haven and probably from 6am-9am and from 4pm-7pm.

Good luck!

i still have family up NL way and i used to live in NH so whenever i came back from visiting, it seemed that no matter what day of week or time of day it was, the traffic would always back up around exit 54. don't know if that's still the case - they were supposed to start expanding 95 to 3 lanes down that way.

The worst traffic on 95 between New Haven and New London is during the summer in the afternoons, when there is tons of beach and tourist traffic in both directions.

In September though the worst of that should be gone. It is only 2 lanes but unless there's an accident, traffic is never that bad until you enter East Haven/approaching the Q bridge where it almost always slows down.

Going from New Haven - New London, the greatest likelihood of a back-up is right over the bridge in Old Saybrook, between exits 70-71, and sometimes it gets backed up between 73 and 75 (because of the I-395 interchange).

But it's never "really bad" like the miles and miles of bumper-to-bumper traffic that can be found west of New Haven.

The Q bridge, as heather121 says, is probably your main traffic problem. Even on WCBS newsradio 880 in NYC their traffic reports (which go out to about New Haven in that direction) mention the Q (Quinnipiac) bridge a lot.

That's right. Unlike the Romance languages (French, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, and Romanian), we don't use articles before most nouns. By the way, English is part of the Germanic languages although we altered vowel sounds (a, e, i) and many other rules.

"the I-95"..lol cool. How about The 95? Actually they dosay the 95 corridor.

Anyway-- for some reason summer afternoons are worse than winter afternoons. I dont get that. Is it the kids on the road? Summer jobs? People going out more? I'm talking starting from like 2-3pm.

I would stay away from I-95 between the hours of 3-7pm.

I just realized you asked about New London-New Haven. Not sure about up there.

It's the beach

I went to the Waterford Target yesterday around 2pm, and starting from exit 70, 95 North was bumper-to-bumper through exit 76, and it was like that 3 hours later when I went back southbound. It's insane, though sadly very expected from Memorial Day through Labor Day :P

If this were southern California, they would call it that ("the 95")
