Am I likely to find a parking spot at the New Haven train station on a Friday afternoon around 2 or 3 PM without having to schlep a long distance from the lot to the station?

Some Google searching tells me that parking is tight at the station, but I suspect that in the afternoon it wouldn't be so bad as some commuters would be returning from work early. But I'd like to hear from someone with first-hand experience.

My alternate plan would be to drive a bit farther and park at Bridgeport.

Thanks!

Hi,

There's a huge parking garage right next to Union Station, and though it's likely to be filled it shouldn't be full. You might have to drive around a bit on different floors, but you'll likely find a spot. If not, there's another parking garage right across the street - that shouldn't be too much of a schlep. Of all the times I've gone into the city from New Haven, the only time I've had a really hard time parking close to the station is during the holiday season in December.

Bridgeport's station is an option, but so is Stamford - it might be a further drive but it's in a better area overall and there are more trains going to Grand Central more frequently. They get you there quicker, too.
