We're planning on spending the weekend in NYC and need to know if there's weekend parking available at the New Haven train station. Is it safe to leave the car there? Any recommendations would be appreciated as we normally do just day trips and park in Westport but were advised that overnight parking there is not a good idea. Thanks in advance.

Hi Rich,

There's a huge garage next to NH's Union Station and they do allow overnight parking. It's a busy station, and people leave cars overnight all the time. If there's no parking at THAT station, there's another huge garage right across the street. Both allow overnight parking (for a fee, of course!) and you shouldn't fear for your safety or worry about theft. I can't tell you how many times I've used it in the past 8 years going into the city on the weekends and I've never had a problem.

Any idea what parking in NH costs a day? I will be leaving my car at the NH station for four-five days at a time to catch a train to DC...

I know they charge by the hour there, not sure what exactly it's up to now though. Last few times I've gone into Manhattan I've taken the Stamford line - reason being is it'sa shorter train ride and more departures from there than from New Haven.
